Start with the degree you still need to complete
This guide is for an RN considering a BSN completion route. Compare the exact pathway and campus. A prelicensure program’s NCLEX pass rate does not measure the value of a completion program for someone already licensed.
| Decision | Record or ask | Why it changes the next step |
|---|---|---|
| Entry fit | Accepted RN license, education and location | An online label does not establish residence eligibility. |
| Remaining study | Individual evaluation of nursing and general education credits | Published credit totals do not tell you what remains in your case. |
| Practical commitments | Projects, fieldwork, travel and local arrangements | Online coursework can still include activities outside your screen. |
| Actual price | Remaining credits, mandatory fees and support conditions | A price per credit needs a confirmed quantity. |
One documented example
Ohio State’s RN-to-BSN information describes online coursework, individual transfer considerations and community or organizational projects. Use it as an example of the distinctions to investigate, not an endorsement or a guarantee that its policies fit you.
Illustrative example — not a verified program
Program A has provided a degree audit; Program B has only given a generic brochure. Record B’s remaining credits as unknown. Ask for its evaluation before comparing numerical costs.
Prepare a useful request
Ask for a written remaining-credit plan, program-specific fees and any in-person or project requirements for your location. Put each response and date in the comparator. Use “Draft admissions questions” to turn unconfirmed fields into an editable message.
