Utah leads Medscape’s list of the top 10 telemedicine-friendly states.
For the list, published May 23, Medscape analyzed six telehealth metrics across states: Medicaid reimbursement; remote patient monitoring and chronic care management; cross-state licensing; participation in state compacts; practice areas, including behavioral health; and statewide technological capabilities and broadband access.
The metrics were assessed using a combination of state-reported data, policy reviews, and telehealth developments — some specific to individual states, others reflecting broader telehealth trends.
Medscape said Utah stood out due to the across-state-line reform it passed last year. The online platform noted that providers in the state can get approved to practice telehealth in 15 days, unless there’s a violation.
The top 10 telehealth-friendly states in the U.S., per Medscape:
Utah
Arizona
South Dakota
Idaho
