The CDC is investing $118.5 million in public health infrastructure to identify and prevent pregnancy-related deaths.

The money will be distributed to Maternal Mortality Review Committees across 46 states and six territories over five years. The committees are multidisciplinary groups that review deaths that occurred within one year of the end of a pregnancy and determine if pregnancy-related deaths were preventable and recommend ways to prevent them in the future, according to an Aug. 27 CDC news release. The money will also advance progress on implementing the White House Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis.

The announcement came the same day HHS and the Health Resources and Services Administration revealed $558 million and $440 million, respectively, investments in maternal health programs.
